This video cracked me up. I want this dog.

Sadly there was a number of ignorant comments posted in response to the video - if anyone wishes to provide some balance here's the direct link: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3d0_1257397541&p=1

Hello Dog_lovers!
My name is Suki and I've been lurking for a while but I thought it was about time to stop being rude and introduce myself. I live in Edinburgh with my SO and our new furbaby Loki, I say new we adopted him from a woman who rescued a beautiful Northern Inuit named Saskia who went onto season 3 days before her first dog Rio a border collie was nuertered...... A happy mistake bringing 10 gorgeous pups and bringing us Loki.

I had to leave my dogs in Georgia with my husband while I attend vet school in Kansas. Its been hard, but I Skype with them on a regular basis. Here is my sleepy boy from tonight:

Our family dog, Baby, has left us to go be with her sisters in heaven. I'm a little in shock right now. She hasn't been right since my dog Happy died in December (her buddy). But I guess we couldn't bring ourselves to realize that.

Until last Sunday, Flyer was a happy, healthy, silly Flat-Coat. Then she had the first of a series of Grand Mal seizures. Her condition declined rapidly over the week. We were hoping an infection of some sort was the cause, but the lab results came back today. There was no infection to treat. We let her go to the Bridge this afternoon.

She was always willing to go anywhere and do anything. She enjoyed conformation, obedience, rally, and flyball. She enjoyed agility as well, but her human wasn't up to the challenge and she never showed. After my stroke, she happily ran flyball for other people until I was able to stand long enough to do it myself. She learned to accomodate my new weird manner of walking once I was able to attempt classes again and earned her RN last spring. She was almost ready to go into Rally Advanced. We will miss her more than words can express.

That's some awesome goddamned news, NASA.
Hope this rekindles people's interest in the sky...

Which leads us to the inevitable shout of:

And yeah, that's really what Winamp was playing when I posted this.

Lola got a hold of Gus's soft e-collar (Betsy) this morning, bringing about the battle of the century:

Blow by blow under the cut, plus bonus pictures of Lola with giant Kong. And a Gus update! )
And this is how Gus is spending his time (the camera fogged up for some reason):

After he chewed off the cast, the doctor decided to leave it off for good! So Gus is on to PT and 5 minute walks, but still on cage rest for 4 more weeks. He's in this playpen so he can be in the living room and not isolated in the bed room.

But...I AM being good mommy.

Noah has decided that yesterday was the day to be a naughty little boy. Starting with the morning, it's been nothing but nipping and mouthing me when he's trying to play. (of course, I've been saying "ouch!" and leaving the room).

He's nearing four months, so I know that's some of the issue, and I've been training with him everyday, playing with him everyday, socializing him almost everyday. (between my being sick lately, and it's been raining a lot, we don't get out at much as I'd like) He's starting to investagate more and isn't really interested in his toys like he used to be, tug of war, fetch or find it. I really think he's getting bored. Is there any toys or games you guys suggest? (I'm discovering he really doesn't like it when I take a toy to play fetch with. Sometimes he'll nip if he's in my lap and I take the toy to throw it)

He just graduated puppy preschool, (yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy) and I'm so proud of him! However, I'm so glad puppy intermedate starts next week, lol.

In other news, Noah got a new haircut and the groomer made him look like a poodle (I said puppy cut, not poodle cut hahahahaha) even though he's part cocker spaniel and now looks like a ewalk from Star Wars.

i look like bon jovi.. )

I can't stay mad long.

Hey, I posted two weeks ago about getting my mom a dog from the local Humane society... Wlell things are going well, although my mom is having trouble getting Isis to go in the car.. Once she is in the car she is real nice, doesn't whine to be let out or anything and will actually curl up and sleep if driving long distances, its just getting her IN the car LOL, I went over on Sunday to spend some time hoping to get Isis to go into the car... after an hour of not succeeding at all I gave up LOL.

What I did to try to get her into the car.... I took her for a nice walk, then I brought her to the car and I myself got into the car and sat there... calling her over... most of the time when I had a treat in my hand she would come in, but as soon as I would get up to get out the other side, she would be right there with me. I would be able to sneak out quickly and Let her sit in there and give her a treat and praisin her for being good....I never pushed or forced her to go in the car.......

What are other techniques I should try to get her into the car?

Hey! Let me know if this is out of line, and I will delete the post and post elsewhere, I was just thinking this would be a good crowd!

I am in the Seattle area, if you are as well, or pretty much anywhere in western Washington, Motley Zoo will give your foster dog free training, food, approved vet care, and even (to place the harder dogs) pay for dog walking if your schedule is too busy to walk the dog every day. If you have a home and the love to take a dog in, Please contact me through livejournal or at washingtonsbigblackdogs@gmail.com.

If you are not in Washington, contact your local shelter or the rescue organizations in your area, most places are willing to pay for food and vet care if you are willing to feed, love and socialize another dog.

Worried about getting attached? Foster parents have first grabs when it comes to adopting out a dog. This means when they do find a home (usually 1 week to a month and sometimes much longer than that for old dogs, bully breeds, or other "difficult" dogs), they will ask you if you would like to adopt the dog out or if you would like to keep them, so if they become family, they will not take your dog away!

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

I'm seeking advice on Kongs.

A couple of days ago, I bought my Frenchie pup a medium puppy Kong, b/c that's the weight range he's in. However, this afternoon, he was only able to get the stuff out of the biggest ridge. My Chi mix stole it later in the afternoon and did a pretty good job of cleaning it out. I realize that my Frenchie's flat face might be the issue with him being able to get stuff out, so should I go smaller or larger?

Or, any of you had experience with their 'stuff-a-ball'?

Thx if you can be of some help.

We have three dogs and two are well behaved. The breeds are a mini aussie, a lab, and a doberman. The doberman is the problem. We also have 4 children that are very respectful with the dogs. My 6 year old trained the aussie in private classes because she was too scared of me (we never figured out why and she's fine now.)

Now onto the Doberman. She is very high energy. She is food aggressive, which is the easiest of her issues. The big issue happened today when she lunged to attack the 3 year old without provocation, after she attacked the sleeping lab and I was trying to get her outside. This is the second incident this week where there has been no cause for her aggression. She'll be calmly sitting beside me and BAM- she's attacking the lab, who was sleeping both times. I'm literally always ready to grab her at anytime because her aggression is so severe.

Right now she is outside until my SO gets home, then she is on a leash inside after the kids go to bed and their doors are shut.

I've called many vets and behaviorists and all but two thinks she's "red zone" and cannot be rehabilitated. I'd really like for them to be wrong but I don't want to see anyone, canine or human, badly hurt either.

So, is there hope for a severely aggressive doberman?

Update to this post http://community.livejournal.com/dog_lovers/2817545.html

This afternoon Dylan threw up ALOT of undigested food (the little he ate this morning plus some mucus stuff and gunk).
We went to the vet and vet does think his wound was infected, but thinks we did a good job and brought him in before it got too bad. He had a fever of 104 degrees :(

Dylan is on antibiotics (Baytril) and is now getting alot of sleep here with us. Doc thinks he will be okay in less then a week :)

While we were at the vet Dylan was such a good boy :) He stood perfectly still as vet examined him and took temp. Vet even commented that Dylan is "something special b/c he's still looking for affection with a 104 temperature". And I was very pleased when vet confirmed that he also thinks Dylan will do great with Therapy dog work :) Yay!

Thanks to everyone for their help and support :)
